Stone

Stone used to be the main material that was used during so called the Stone Age. It is assumed that most of the material was gained in the region but it is a matter of fact that also in this period of time there was interregional trade with stones which were extraordinarily suitable for tools. We distinguish two types of tools according to techniques which were used during processing. The older one is chopping, the younger is grinding. Both of them you can see in videos below. Near the chair in this room, there are prehistorical grinding stones which were used for flour making.

Stone was an important material for a long period of time although metals have been more and more important. People used stone as moulds for casting metal tools and utilized pieces of stones for flint and steels or whetstones. Stones can be also mentioned as material for building houses or castles.
